Very professional and friendly, they make a difficult task so much easier. I would recommend them to anyone.

Sadly for my family, this is the third funeral Academy Funerals has done for us. Ashley is sensitive to his position, and makes you feel comfortable from the first point of contact. Nothing was too much trouble, everything was organised, which took the stress off me. Ashley turned up at my home, sat with me, offered suggestions when my mind didn’t want to comprehend what was going on. It also helps that they don’t charge the grieving family an arm and a leg in the darkest hours of our lives. The day went off exactly how I envisioned it, many many people commented on how wonderful Ray’s send off was. Having his service in the park by the ocean was the best idea ever. Thank you Ashley. I hope it’s a long time until we meet again. (I mean that in the nicest possible way). Karen Lane

When Peter died we didn’t know what to do. Even though he had been unwell for a long time and we had often discussed death, we didn’t have any specific plans for a funeral. I knew the name of a song that was special to him but nothing else. It was through Google that we found Academy Funerals. The first thing that appealed to us was that it was an Australian family owned business. The next was that Ashely sent us a lovely email with an attachment that covered many services that Academy Funerals could provide that we didn’t even know existed. Ashley came to visit with us and immediately we felt that Peter was going to be in kind and caring hands. Neither Nicole nor I knew what to do or what to expect but we were gently guided through the process by Ashley and then Rod who was the celebrant for Peter’s funeral. Without exception everyone commented on how beautifully Rod conducted the service. Many assumed that he was a family friend. We were anxious about visiting Peter at Academy Funeral’s Lawnton premises a day or so before the funeral and we nearly didn’t go. However we were really glad that we did. It was so nice to see him and sit quietly with him. Nicole and her dad had a special ritual when they said good bye. At Rod’s suggestion she asked Robin to keep beeping the horn as he drove Peter slowly away. This was a first for Robin and a special moment for Nicole and me. Everything about Peter’s funeral went really well and we are very grateful to Ashley, Robin and Rod for making it work out so well. Thank you Colleen and Nicole Blums

About Us

Proud to be friends and neighbours within the community, Bracken Ridge and Brisbane funeral directors Ashley and Katrina Bergh’s focus is on supporting families through a very difficult time.

As a small funeral home with warm family values, Academy Funerals is on call and there when people need them – whatever the time of day or night. The person you first speak to will provide the reassuring support that you need through throughout the journey.

They will listen and provide support to arrange a farewell that is meaningful, memorable – and healing for those left behind.

Ashley and Katrina want families to feel as reassured as possible. The comfortable, air-conditioned Bracken Ridge office and Lawnton funeral home has on-site parking and is family and pet-friendly, with a secure supervised play area for little ones.

A private viewing room is available for families to spend time with their loved one, with a small chapel of rest providing space for quiet contemplation. A qualified psychologist is on call at all hours for those who need a little extra emotional support at this time.

As a small family business, the Brisbane funeral directors are able to accommodate families wishes and do not charge extra for after hours and weekend arranging, viewings or dressing loved ones. They are also happy to arrange to visit South East Queensland families, or to bring their loved one home to lie at rest, before the funeral.

Academy Funerals offers a full range of coffins and caskets, including coffins and caskets for those requiring a larger or more comfortable size. Funeral transport includes a stylish custom-made hearse with seating space for mourners to accompany their loved one to the funeral and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle hearse.

This Brisbane funeral home strives to do the very best for every family, with a mission to provide “dignity beyond all expectation” to those they care for.

Call Academy Funerals for caring funeral service at the heart of the community.

No request was too big or too small - Ashley was incredibly helpful guiding us through the process. Highly empathetic business that provided my family with the support needed during such a harrowing time. Thank you just doesn’t seem enough

From the very start Academy funerals were amazing. Ashley rang once said he’d never call again if I didn’t call him and kept that promise.  When I did contact him he was professional, upheld mums dignity, treated us all with kindness and understanding. Was never ever pushy. Robin did an amazing talk at mums funeral. Treating all the family with respect and going out of his way to get to know us before the service.  At such a sad time the last thing you need is a pushy sales person and Academy Funerals are far from pushy.  Thank you for treating mum with dignity, allowing me time to learn and heal and express my self. You are amazing and in the sad event that we or friends need the service of a funeral director again i would happily direct them your way

My family were extremely satisfied with the professional service we received from Academy Funerals. Personally I feel that I made the right choice at a difficult time, when you want the best for your mother's funeral but also have a budget to work within. Every part of the process felt comfortable, and we were supported in the arrangements. We were able to run the memorial service as a family, without the need for a celebrant which made it more personal. Thank you.

When my mum was dying I was told about Academy Funerals by a dear friend. Then I made the phone call and Ashley sounded so calm and friendly. Ashley and his dear wife Katrina were just like family. When they arrived at my house, after travelling for and hour, it was as though I had come home. I can't explain it. Nothing was difficult or too hard for them. They were so very caring and kind to me and looked after my mum so tenderly. They helped me get through one of the hardest times in my life. I will be forever grateful. Their prices are very reasonable and I have no hesitation in recommending them as funeral directors.

A very sensible way to save thousands of unnecessary dollars at a time when you are feeling particularly raw and vulnerable. I’ll be requesting this company in my will. It’s quite shocking to see how other companies manipulate people financially when they are at their most fragile.

Both Katherine and Ashley were amazing. They were gentle and caring, down to earth. We were able to tell them what we wanted for our Grandma and they didn't try and push or sell us anything that we hadn't requested. Extremely amazing service despite it being a sad time for us. I can't thank them enough for taking care of my grandmother. Thank you so much.

Ash and his crew were so supportive and caring throughout the funeral process of my Grandmother. This is the second time we have used ‘Polynesian Funerals’ and we would never use anyone else now. Losing loved ones is such a tough thing to have to go through but Polynesian Funerals definitely make the process so much easier through their genuine care, support and understanding. Thanks Ash & the crew! ❤️
