Cups of Tea with Melly
For over thirty years I was Melly's neighbour
an era that has sadly come to an end
I've gotten to know many who came through her door
but no more time with Melly I will spend.

I came to know her eight sons
of whom she was very proud mother
through good times and bad, happy and sad
we shared our lives with each other

How many hours I was forced to listen to
country music, I can not tell
singers like Jim Reeves, George Jones
Merly Haggard and Lefty Frizzell

Many many hours we played cards, filled in
crosswords or simply watch telly
but the times I miss most are when
I had cups of tea with my friend Melly

This morning we laid our dear Nan to rest on top of her beloved husband and father of their eight children.
I am so incredibly proud of my dad Aubrey, for organising the funeral and delivering a beautiful eulogy which was hard for him. On one of the toughest days of his life.
I cant imagine the strength it would take to lay your mum to rest with your dad, just a mere 20 metres from your first wife Eileen, your three children, Donna, Tyrone and Dion as well as one of your oldest and best mates Neil Gibson. And still remain strong and focused for your younger brothers and family.

Your an exceptional human Strawb' . Rest easy Nan xxoxo

Losing a mother is a pain that cannot be described in words. It is impossible to move on from the memory of losing the woman who sacrificed happiness in her own life so that her family could have a better one. You left Tasmania headed for Melbourne with all that water around you who would of thought that you couldn't swim nor float for that matter, I had to watch you in the baby's foot deep swimming pool more so then the baby's . You joined the carnival and meet the man of your life, I remember you telling stories of how you made Aubrey sell and leave so that you could build a better life for your boys, riding the thunder done with snakes wrapped around you was never to be anymore... Who would have thought Zelda the snake women would hang up her snakes, and replaced those snakes with 8 sons wrapped around her. I was was nearly 12.5 and you welcomed me with open arms , having 8 boys you always knew there would be eight daughter in laws and actually across your grandchildren and great grandchildren there are more girls then boys and that put a smile on your face. When I was sixteen I seen you go through some tragic times, the accident that killed your daughter in law Donna, and three grandchildren, and Lesley which was to be your next daughter in law.
Then the death of the man that you held close to your heart, the brain tumor your youngest child endured and all his health issues that followed. He has your genes and the will to live. The loss of your second youngest son last year, and with your own health issues plummeting , you never dropped the ball you fort till the end, with great strength and determination to be here , every-time we were told it was time you raised the bar. Your generation was / is a force to be reckoned with and I have the up most respect for you all.
While words can never fully express how much a death of our Mother / mother in law means to us, writing this I found comfort, solace, hope and even inspiration.

Robert Browning, English poet wrote,
Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.
Truer words couldn't have been written.

Last Wednesday Aubrey, and Gavin paid you a visit and extended their arms out to you, this time you closed your eyes and followed. While we find comfort that are you are all together we love you and will miss you all dearly.

Nana, I have so many memories of us, of you, mostly hysterically funny memories and then memories of your words of wisdom and kindness. You were the glue that held us all together and pray we will continue in your memory, as you are the meaning of family for me. I hope God has a comfy lounge and a beer waiting for you, ready for State of Origin, love you always, your granddaughter Jodie xoxoxo
